Curatorial note
Conceived as a chromatic counterpoint to Songs of Deep Water, the painting retains its dispersed score of repeated marks while reversing the emotional temperature. Blue bodies move through a warm, porous ground as green and orange cells gather and separate like plankton, bubbles, or seeds. The work does not describe a single underwater scene; it stages water as a living system held together by circulation, multiplicity, and the tension between recognizable forms and abstract rhythm.
Installation note
Hang the work at eye level under neutral, even light so the cream ground remains luminous and the cool blues stay distinct from the green and orange clusters. It is especially effective near Songs of Deep Water, with enough wall space between them to make the shift from nocturnal depth to open, oxygenated movement legible.
